teddy0 I am from the Philippines , have been in the USA for 3 decades now - and I CAN tell you that, from my growing up with my closest friend "half-chinese"and decades later in a neighorhood in new york city..the chinese DO have that common characteristic you mentioned.
ASTUTE...but ALSO always willing to "make deals" and very flexible - just to "make a CENT"...they are PATIENT with even the smallest "earning"..exactly as my childhood friend explained to me when I asked :"how come you chinese are SO successful?"...he said: "ted, for us, even a centavo, so long as we earn something, we'll take it..."...and when his dad's hardware store burned down in a town fire: he, a teenager then, was "summoned" by the "older" businesses to the big city -- given bags of cash to rebuild - to "pay when you are able" - to ensure that that business did not suffer too much of a setback...in a MONTH -- it was up and running as if nothing happened.
and day after day -- he and his younger siblings took turns watching the store. while doing school home work...
