I can't talk about Japanese people ingeneral, but based on my limited encounters with some of them, to a certaindegree they do have.

Every time when I introduced myself saying I was from Nanjing, I could sensethe air around would freeze for a few seconds; since I didn't feel obliged tohave a conversation on history on those occasions, we would normally move on toother topics.

However there was once an exception: we used to have a business contact inJapan, a young girl who also received part of her education in US. We never meteach other in person but only through emails or gtalk.
