I like China’s subway stations with their protective sliding doors to keep the patrons away from the track. We don’t have that in Montreal, Canada, a woman fell in between the metro car gaps while texting and not paying attention to where she was walking and died

Things sure have progressed. . back in 2006 I first visited China and took the only train on that exact same route from Shenzhen to Guilin. Was at least 18 hours long overnight ride. I was super lucky in that my cabin just happened to be shared with a girl who was a professional english/chinese translator traveling with her Mom. I tagged along with them and it made my first trip in mainland CHina amazing!

我很幸运，车厢内刚好有一位女孩是专业的英语翻译，她和她妈妈一起来坐车的

I’ve only ridden the high-speed rail in China between Guangzhou and Shenzhen, so it didn’t go as fast…perhaps only 155kph. Still it was quite nice. I did occasionally have issues with people taking my seat, but as soon as I showed them my ticket, it was easy enough to reclaim it. I’m not sure if it was funny or not, but I found it kind of funny with the 1960’s like stewardesses that come by occasionally offering coffee or Nai Cha, but you can tell their heart really isn’t in it. Good stuff, mate.
